I love Fowl Meadow, and I'm all for cleaning it up -- but how could it have been the site of an airport? Most of it is under water a good part of the time!

Good question! At the hearing last night, they explained that when the airport was created in the 1930s, the wetland was filled in. After the airport closed in the 1950s, the airport hangers and runways provided the foundation for a number of other industrial users. Now the areas that were previously filled in have sunk and the land has reverted back to wetlands.
