Have you noticed the new yellow dots at Houghton’s Pond? They are part of DCR’s new Healthy Heart Trails initiative to promote better health. Statewide, over 70 trails will be designated in the hope that Massachusetts residents will make them part of their regular exercise routine.
Like many of the trails the DCR has designated throughout the state, the trail at Houghton’s Pond is an easy 1.1 mile walk.
As part of DCR's Healthy Heart Initiative, you can track your walking experiences throughout the summer. DCR is encouraging walkers to visit Healthy Heart Trails in their neighborhood or across the state and to reach a goal of 75 miles walked by Labor Day. Check out the DCR webpage to join the Healthy Heart list serve, to start tracking your walks or for more information this program.
